West Allerton Station stairs

Make West Allerton Step Free

West Allerton Station is now the only station in Liverpool without step-free access no plan in place to make it accessible.

In 2022, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority submitted bids for government funding to make another 10 stations step free. West Allerton was left off this list.

60,000 passengers used West Allerton Station last year (a third of the number at the neighbouring Mossley Hill Station) but many more would use the station if it was easier to access. The community around West Allerton is poorly served by buses. It has a large number of older residents and families with young children who currently struggle to use the station.

We believe making West Allerton step-free would lead to a significant increase in passenger numbers, and encourage more local residents to leave their cars at home when visiting Liverpool City Centre.

Liberal Democrats are calling on the Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor and Combined Authority to guarantee that West Allerton Station will be included in the next bid for government funding for station improvements.

Make West Allerton Station Step Free

We call on the Liverpool City Region Mayor and the Combined Authority to ensure that lifts are installed at West Allerton Station to make the platforms accessible.
