Reopen Mather Avenue Shopping Parade

Springwood campaigner James Thornhill at Mather Avenue shops

In July 2023, Liverpool City Council evicted the majority of shops on the Mather Avenue parade in a dispute over rent arrears. 18 months later, we seem no closer to seeing the shops reopen.

Local residents have been left without anywhere to buy basics such as a loaf of bread or pint of milk. Our community is being denied the jobs that would come with new businesses. The council is missing out on rent to fund local services. Mather Avenue is an eyesore.

For over a year, the council has claimed it has a long list of potential tenants for each shop and were working to finalise the leases. Why is it taking so long?

Springwood campaigner James Thornhill and Allerton councillor Andrew Makinson have been leading calls for the council to get these shops reopened for our local community.

Reopen Mather Avenue shops

18 months is long enough to get new tenants into the shops on Mather Avenue. We call on Liverpool City Council to get their act together and reopen these shops for our community.
