Labour donor got acres of land for £1
Liverpool Taxpayers lost over £1M following a cut price land sale to a Labour supporting developer.
14 plots of land totalling 9 acres (equal to 5 football pitches) was given to the company - often paying just £1 or less.
The developer then sold one of the £1 sites for £900,000. On another site they built 14 terraced homes, which they sold back to a council owned company for £1.6 Million.
Liverpool Labour had previously received thousands of pounds in donations from this company, money that was then used to help elect Labour councillors in the city.
There is nothing to suggest that the donations from 2006-2015 were linked to these land deals, but it’s another example of a relationship between the council and certain businesses.
The city’s Liberal Democrats, who have long refused to to accept such donations, have challenged Labour to join them in signing a “clean party funding” charter.
“The people of Liverpool have a right to expect their councillors no to be bankrolled by those who will later benefit from their decisions,” said Lib Dem Councillor Pat Moloney.
