Support Smithdown Place Pharmacy Plan
Local councillors Richard Kemp and Carl Cashman are supporting a proposal to open a new pharmacy on Smithdown Place to replace the Boots Chemist which is one of a string of closures of pharmacies in South Liverpool including 3 on Allerton Road itself.
Eight pharmacies close every week in the UK. In Liverpool, we've lost 32 pharmacies since June 2016 but 15 of them have in the last year.
Green Lane pharmacy at the library end of the Allerton Road shopping area has put in a bid to open a new ‘Penny Lane’ pharmacy at the other end. This is probably not to their financial advantage, but this is a local firm which feels a duty to the local residents they have served for decades.
Fay and Matt Harvey, the pharmacists seeking to do the reopening said, “Local pharmacies have been put under immeasurable strain since the closure of three local Boots pharmacies. This has led to 15,000 residents needing to find alternative provision. Whilst we have welcomed thousands of new patients to Green Lane Pharmacy over these past few months, we recognise that our pharmacy is not conveniently located for some.
We believe that the opening of Penny Lane Pharmacy will provide better pharmacy access to our local population. Our locally owed and run pharmacy is looking forward to expanding and serving the needs of our local community.”
