“My Christmas Wish? A local parking warden for every part of the city” say Liverpool Lib Dem Leader
With Christmas round the corner, Cllr Carl Cashman makes clear what he wants under the tree on December 25th - an army of parking wardens working across the City.
Liverpool Lib Dems have made renewed calls for an army of traffic wardens - not just for Christmas but for life. They want to see them working outside of the city centre across the whole of Liverpool, in all the neighbourhoods and high streets. They argue that greater levels of enforcement will deter rogue parking across the city.
The Liverpool Lib Dems say that Labour have effectively legalised rogue parking across the city after steadily reducing the number of parking wardens. Yet Labour still found themselves in hot water after 51 parking fines were cancelled for Labour Councillors from 2015 to 2020 - including the former Labour Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson.
Leader of the Liverpool Lib Dems, Cllr Carl Cashman said, “Most people want the shiny new gadget or new bit of jewelry for Christmas, so I’m definitely an outlier asking for an army of traffic wardens. But just like a new pair of socks, it's a practical gift. We need to tackle selfish and rogue parking in Liverpool and the only way we’re getting that is with proper parking enforcement across the city.
“But with Labour being on the naughty list this year, it doesn’t feel like it’s going to happen any time soon. The problem across the city is people feel ignored by the Labour-run council - they get told what’s being imposed on them. They don’t get asked what they want and when people speak out they don’t get listened too. We need a council that listens to residents, asks what they want and then takes action - the only way we’re going to get that is with the Liberal Democrats running it.”
Josie Mullen, Lib Dem Candidate in the Much Woolton and Hunts Cross by-election, said, “In places like Woolton and Hunts Cross you never see a parking warden, so selfish parkers feel they can park however they want because no one is going to stop them.
“Rogue and selfish parking forces young mums with prams into the road because a car is blocking a narrow pavement, makes it harder for the visually impaired to get about because of the additional obstacles, and people in wheelchairs and with lower mobility are stuck struggling to get by - it’s terrible.”
The Liverpool Lib Dems have launched a petition calling for an army of traffic wardens across the city and for each neighbourhood of the city to have its own local traffic warden. You can sign it below:
