Former City Centre Labour Councillor joins Lib Dems
Maria Toolan, a former Councillor for Central ward, has joined Carl Cashman’s Liberal
Democrats in Liverpool.
The former Labour Councillor was elected to represent the Central Ward in 2019. In her resignation statement, Toolan called out the Labour Administration for failing the people of Liverpool, as well as a toxic internal culture within the Liverpool Labour Party.
She’s now joined the Liberal Democrats in Liverpool, bringing her years of experience standing up for the city centre and fighting for social justice across the whole city.
Maria Toolan said, “Carl Cashman is building a team of people across the City who want to stand up for their communities. After meeting him I got the impression that the Lib Dems are on the right path with progressive policies and Liverpool people at the forefront of their mind. The Labour Party has turned its back on so many of its voters especially here in Liverpool.”
Cllr Carl Cashman, Leader of the Opposition, said, “It’s a privilege to welcome Maria into the Liverpool Lib Dems. She’s passionate and dedicated to fighting for what's best for the City Centre. Maria joining us shows that the Lib Dems are on the up in Liverpool - we are standing up for our communities and people are taking notice. They see that the Liberal Democrats are the hardworking local champions that we need.”
